DIGICOM LEARNING GOES ON HIATUS
To our school administrators, donors, and digital storytelling teachers:
Today, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, our nation’s school districts are experiencing the economic reality of serious cuts, coupled with the financial challenges of safely reopening to deliver the most basic educational services.
Under these circumstances, we want you to know that DIGICOM Learning will not be able to deliver our program and services to teachers and students during the 2020-2021 school year.
As a 12-year partner of the Coachella Valley school systems, this is a deeply sad and disappointing announcement to make.
However, we’re proud the DIGICOM program has been in place for more than a decade, and that we’ve trained hundreds of teachers and thousands of students in digital storytelling. We believe that, together, we’ve all achieved the goal of integrating this contemporary learning tool into classrooms and curriculums, providing more effective education in the 21st century.
Moving forward, DIGICOM Learning will focus on new opportunities and methods for training educators in digital storytelling. The current crisis underscores the need for all of us to find engaging and meaningful ways to communicate through the use of technology.
Sharing our ideas, stories and lives through video is now more important than ever. We’ve always believed – and proven through research – that digital storytelling enables students to be more engaged in the classroom and to better understand and remember their lessons, all while participating in a process that encourages collaboration and fuels social-emotional growth.
This is what making short videos is all about.
Digital storytelling is still in its early stages, and as the next phase of educational strategies unfold, we’re confident that learning will be continually enhanced by making and sharing digital stories. This has always been the mission of DIGICOM Learning.
We’d like to thank all of you for your past and present support, and we look forward to keeping you informed of our future plans.
All the best,
David Vogel
